History

On 30th June 1969, our beloved Lord Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba departed for his first and maiden trip outside of India in Physical form. Baba's destination was to be Kenya.. and blessed was this country and its people receiving Baba's Divine Grace.

In April 2000, Baba's Sankalpa began with the plans for the establishment of the first Sathya Sai School in Kenya. The site chosen by Bhagwan for the school located in a small remote village called Kisaju in Kijiado district, which is in Massai (Maa Sai) area, approximately 75 kilometers from Nairobi.

SATHYA SAI SCHOOL- KISAJU is bulit on a 50-acre plot. It is an institute established for providing quality and free education to be "underprivileged", "Marginalized and “destitute" children from all over Kenya.

The school was constructed in a record period of 9 months and commenced classes in January 2001 with the first intake of 32 students in classes 1 & 2. As at year 2007 the school strength for standard 1-8 stood at a total of 167 pupils. It is evident that the SSEHV programme will instill a renaissance in Kenya's education not only in bringing a dramatic change in pupil's character through daily practice of human values but also in academic excellence.

The school follows the Kenyan 8-4-4 education system, with special emphasis on "Education in human values' in all subjects. The school will initially cater for boys for primary education for eight years, leading to the National Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Examinations. At the next level Secondary education will be provided, leading to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

Admissions to the school are decided by an exhaustive enquiry. The process includes tests, interviews may include casework visits as well, the objective being to provide opportunities to 'marginalized' and 'destitute' children who have potential but no hope of affording to go to a state school.

SRI SATHYA SAI BABA

“In the tender hearts of the children, there is a great potentiality of devotion and attachment to higher ideals and objectives. This can be developed and cultivated by you. Do not think that they do not know anything; that you can divert them anyway you wish; this is a mistake. Recognise the great potentials of the child; adopt such methods as a child himself might suggest or indicate. Help the child to reach godliness and become aware of its destiny. Do not presume that the child is some inferior personality or that is incapable of attaining the heights.”

A WORD FROM THE TRUSTEES

Education should not only be focussed on fostering job opportunities, economic developments, social justice or self-reliance,but should also stress on moulding the character of the youth. The solution to the crisis in the Education system lies in accepting and injecting into the content and process of education of the well conceived, and tested components of the Sathya Sai Education in Human Values(SSEHV) programme commissioned by the founder of the school - Sri Sathya Sai Baba himself.

This concept is attaining rapid recognition in other countries, namely Zambia,Ghana,Southafrica,Zimbabwe,Latin America,USA,UK,Malaysia,Thailand,Japan,China,India,USSR to name a few.

The traditional values in Africa and the Sathya Sai Education in human Values(SSEHV) are related. The elaborate codes of conduct in African traditional society uphold the basic human values that aim at attaining perfection. The SSEHV, to aims for perfection. Thus the trans-survival values and codes of conduct in the African culture can,by being analysed, synthesized and systematized,be assimilated into human values through the education system.

These values are essential and universally applicable to all cultures and provide for the first time a module of curriculum and methodology so that they can be taught effectively in schools.

Sathya Sai School-Kisaju is not only a role model school in Kenya, but also trains teachers from other schools in Kajiado District who attend regular training courses in SSEHV methodology and techniques. The workshops/seminars have exposed them to the new educational dimension. It is envisage that the SSEHV programme, will with time expand rapidly in our beloved country.

Kuldip Singh.
